Campuswide celebration honors progress in all areas

Nov. 23, 2005

KALAMAZOO--The entire Western Michigan University community--faculty, staff and students--will be honored in a Celebration of Success set for 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30, in the East Ballroom of the Bernhard Center.

The event, intended to be the first of a series of annual celebrations, will focus on accomplishments and achievements in every area of the institution. Outstanding scholarship and creative activity; innovative initiatives involving all employee groups; student achievement; success in athletics; and the University's growing partnerships with local, state and national colleagues are among the areas that will be highlighted.

Brief remarks by WMU President Judith I. Bailey at 3:45 p.m. will constitute the only formal presentation during the event. The rest of the time is set aside as an opportunity for those attending to enjoy the refreshments, spend time listening to entertainment provided by the School of Music, and view slide presentations, student art work and displays of items that reflect the character and vitality of the University.

"This is for every member of the University community," says Bailey. "So much has been accomplished in recent months, we really need to simply say 'Thank you' to all of our faculty and staff and all of our students. What we have accomplished together is amazing. I hope people will come and spend some time together to acknowledge and celebrate all the progress we've made."

Supervisors in every area are encouraged to arrange work schedules so those staff members who wish to attend the reception sometime during the afternoon may do so.
