WMU Home > About WMU > WMU News Christi Valanty earns academic all-conference honorNov. 30, 2005 KALAMAZOO--Western Michigan University cross country runner Christi Valanty has been named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference team as voted on by faculty athletic representatives at MAC schools. A senior from Allen Park, Mich., Valanty is a nursing major with a 3.74 cumulative grade-point average and finished in WMU's top seven in seven of eight events this season. Valanty is the 12th women's cross country runner in WMU history to be named Academic All-MAC. She was the team's top finisher at the Loyola Lakefront Invitational with a 47th-place finish and set a personal record in the 5K with a time of 18:38.71 at WMU's George Dales Invitational. The Academic All-MAC honor is for student-athletes who have excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport.
