Collegiate Singers perform "Requiem" Sunday

Jan. 19, 2006

KALAMAZOO--The 70-member Collegiate Singers from the School of Music at Western Michigan University will perform Maurice Durufle's "Requiem" in a concert at First United Methodist Church in downtown Kalamazoo at 8:15 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 22. Admission is open to the public free of charge.

The concert will begin with an a cappella "Hosanna" followed by Durufle. "Based on ancient Gregorian Chant, the 'Requiem' is beautifully crafted and a favorite of many musicians and patrons alike," says conductor Jared Daugherty, who is completing studies toward a Master of Music degree in choral conducting.

Instrumental accompaniment will be provided by organist Karl Schrock and cellist Tina Horrigan. Two vocal soloists from the ensemble will be featured--baritone Gregory Etzel, a graduate student from Moline, Ill., and soprano Shelagh Brown, a junior from Kalamazoo.
