Faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends of the University are encouraged to wear brown and gold or Bronco gear Friday, April 7, and the first Friday of every month thereafter. "This is a wonderful activity for our campus, because it is something in which all the members of the community can participate equally," says WMU President Judith I. Bailey. "Participating in Bronco Spirit Days reminds us that we are all part of a very special university." Bronco Spirit Day has been a labor of love for Christopher J. Praedel, president of the WMU Residence Hall Association. Born and raised in Kalamazoo, Praedel says he can remember when "Bronco spirit echoed throughout the community." In fact, many can remember when wearing school colors and Bronco sportswear was a regular Friday happening in the 1990s, especially during the fall and winter sports seasons. Praedel and the Residence Hall Association sponsored two Bronco Spirit Days earlier this semester, primarily as residence hall activities aimed at elevating school pride among students. Both of those events proved highly successful, and with the endorsement of President Bailey, Bronco Spirit Days is going campuswide beginning this month. Various special activities, changing from month to month, will be planned to coincide with Bronco Spirit Days. Media contact: Thom Myers, (269) 387-8400, thom.myers@wmich.edu WMU News |
