Entire computer network will be offline Sunday

May 8, 2006

KALAMAZOO--The Western Michigan University campus computer network will be down from 1 to 8 a.m. Sunday, May 14, for maintenance.

This will affect network connectivity; access to the Internet, e-mail and file services. Web pages on www.wmich.edu and homepages.wmich.edu will be unavailable, including WMU News, the university home page and all other primary WMU Web pages.

Also offline will be GoWMU, the university's secure intranet portal, as well as e-communication Web mail and imap.wmich.edu e-mail service. Additional systems affected include the "H drive" on computers in the Bernhard Center, College of Engineering and Applied Sciences and University Computer Center computer labs; OIT-managed Sun workstations; and VOIP phones.

There will be multiple interruptions of service during the maintenance. Some systems may appear to come back online temporary. Even if a system appears to be restored, users are urged not to engage in any network activities between 1 and 8 a.m. Sunday, May 14, as that could result in lost work or files.

Questions may be directed to the OIT Help Desk at (269) 387-HELP (387-4357). If you experience problems following the maintenance down time and you call while the Help Desk is closed, please leave a message, and OIT staff will attempt to resolve the issue.
