Granholm, U.S. flags on all campuses of Western Michigan University and throughout the state of Michigan will be lowered for one day, Thursday, June 1, in honor of Army Sgt. 1st Class Richard J. Herrema of Hudsonville, Mich., who died April 25 from injuries sustained while on active duty in Iraq. Sgt. Herrema, age 27, was killed when he came under enemy fire during combat operations in Baghdad. He was assigned to the U.S. Army Special Operations Command, Fort Bragg, N.C.
