WMU Home > About WMU > WMU News Student Alumni Association selects new leadersAug. 25, 2006 KALAMAZOO--Western Michigan University's Student Alumni Association held its annual election in May, selecting the organization's leadership for the 2006-07. Seven SAA members are serving one-year terms on this year's executive board. President--Lindsey Cihak of Hart, Mich., is a senior majoring in elementary education. Last year, Cihak served as vice president of programming, organizing a variety of events for students and alumni on such issues as diversity and career networking. In addition to her SAA duties this year, she also co-chairs WMU's Bronco Bash, an annual party that welcomes students to campus and Kalamazoo at the start of each fall semester and includes a recruitment fair for student groups and local organizations as well as University departments and offices. Vice president of programming--Britney Starr of St. Ignace, Mich., is a junior majoring in journalism. Starr has previously served as SAA's information technology coordinator, Recruitment and Retention Committee chair, and Relay for Life team co-chair. Vice president of public relations--Kyle Herm of Otsego, Mich., is a senior majoring in public relations. The 2006-07 year will be Herm's second with SAA, after having transferred to WMU from Arizona State University. Previously, he was a member of the Programming Committee, organized an interviewing workshop and served as co-chair of the Relay for Life team. Treasurer--Lee Sutkowi of Kalamazoo, Mich., is a senior majoring in accounting. Sutkowi previously served a term on the Public Relations Committee. He was instrumental in achieving record attendance for many of the SAA's 2005-06 programs. Secretary--Claire Blanchard of Niles, Mich., is a sophomore majoring in biology. Blanchard joined the SAA after finding out about the organization at Bronco Bash in 2005. She has served on the Recruitment and Retention Committee and helped with membership drives throughout last year. IT coordinator--Daniel Terrell of South Lyon, Mich., is a junior majoring in management. A member of SAA for more than a year and a half, Terrell has gotten to know many aspects of the organization by serving on several committees. Currently, he also is a member of the men's crew team at WMU. Alumni representative--RyAnn Heinisch of Hart, Mich., is a senior majoring in advertising and promotion. This will be Heinisch's second year as the student alumni representative on the WMU Alumni Association's Board of Directors. She serves on this board's Scholarship and Student Engagement committees. Heinisch will also be the 2006-07 President of WMU's Campus Activities Board, which provides diverse entertainment to the University community. The SAA connects students and alumni through a variety of programs and events. It also works in partnership with the Alumni Association to provide networking and professional development opportunities to members.
