Tailgating areas and rules posted on Web

Sept. 8, 2006

KALAMAZOO--Western Michigan University kicks off its 2006 home football schedule at 7 p.m. Saturday night, and WMU is reminding students and other fans of the University's rules regarding tailgating before and after home games.

In Saturday's contest, the Broncos take on the University of Toledo in the annual CommUniverCity Night Football game, which is expected to draw more than 25,000 fans to Waldo Stadium.

There are 11 parking lots near the stadium available for tailgating. They open two and one-half hours prior to the start of the games and close at kickoff. The tailgating areas open again for one hour following home games. Tailgating is not permitted during the games or at half time.

Restrictions in the tailgating areas include:

  • No glass containers
  • No couches or upholstered furniture
  • No kegs, half barrels, pony kegs or other common alcohol containers
  • No oversized trucks
  • One space per vehicle

Tailgating rules and a list of lots available for tailgating can be found on the Web at www.wmich.edu/tailgate.
