"The race is early Saturday morning, so there are usually few or no conflicts with other activities," says Thom Myers in the Office of University Relations, which sponsors the event. "Notifications of the road closings were sent to potentially affected offices and departments beginning in July to help minimize the possibility of someone planning a conflicting event during the race." West Michigan Avenue in front of the Bernhard Center and the parking lots along that section of West Michigan will be closed to all traffic from 6 to 11 a.m. This includes the parking lot in front of Henry Hall and the lot between Kanley Chapel and Sangren Hall. Access will be limited to most academic buildings and residence halls on the central West Campus between about 9 and 10 a.m. during the 5K race. Roads and lots will be opened to traffic as soon as the last runners and walkers have cleared the adjacent parts of the race route. Questions about the courses and road closings may be referred to Thom Myers at thom.myers@wmich.edu or (269) 387-8710. Information about the 2006 Homecoming Campus Classic is available on the Web, including race registration, signing up as a race volunteer and PDF maps for both the 1K and 5K race.
