Concert Band performs Tuesday at Miller

Oct. 12, 2006

KALAMAZOO--The University Concert Band offers a free, public concert Tuesday, Oct. 17, beginning at 8:15 p.m. in Miller Auditorium at Western Michigan University.

Tuesday's concert opens with "Abram's Pursuit" by David Holsinger, an energetic work that musically depicts the Biblical story from Genesis of Abram pursuing the forces that kidnaped Lot and in the end, recovered Lot and his goods. The program continues with a transcription of the well-known "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring" by J.S. Bach and the slightly tongue-in-cheek "Third Suite" by Robert Jager.

Graduate conducting associate Laurel Kay Filzen will conduct "Lux Aurumque" by Eric Whitacre and "Marche des Parachutistes Belges" by Pierre Leemans. The band will close the concert with a transcription of Gershwin's masterpiece "An American in Paris."
