Help local agencies meet holiday needs

Nov. 21, 2006

KALAMAZOO--Western Michigan University is sponsoring a Holiday Volunteer Fair to pair community agencies in need of volunteers with WMU students and others interested in helping those agencies, especially during the busy holiday season. The fair is Tuesday, Nov. 28, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Room 208 of the Bernhard Center, and the public is welcome.

Local agencies expected to attend include the American Cancer Society, City of Kalamazoo, Epilepsy Foundation, Girl Scouts, Headstart, Junior Achievement, Make a Wish Foundation, New Genesis, Ready to Read and Seek the Kingdom. Information also will be available for contacting local agencies not represented at the fair if those attending want to volunteer with another organization.

Materials also will be supplied to create personalized holiday greeting cards, which will be sent to U.S. servicemen and servicewoman serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.

"We are also expecting a brief appearance by a distinguished world leader in holiday cheer from the North Pole," says Nicole Birmingham, assistant director of Student Activities and Leadership Programs.

WMU Volunteer Services and Residence Life are organizing the fair. For more information about WMU Volunteer Services, visit www.volunteerservices.wmich.edu or call (269) 387-2115.
