WMU Home > About WMU > WMU News Kercher Symposium presents post-communist issues expertNov. 29, 2006 KALAMAZOO--Sociologist Dr. Elena Gapova will lecture on post-communist nation building, class formation and gender issues at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, in the Martin Luther King Jr. Room of Western Michigan University's Bernhard Center. The free lecture is open to the public and part of the 2006-07 Kercher Symposium Series, sponsored by the Department of Sociology. A visiting professor of sociology at WMU, Gapova is the director and founder of the Centre for Gender Studies at European Humanities University, a new Belarusian university that is currently in political exile in Lithuania. She is a member of the editorial board of Slavic Review and co-editor of the book "Over the Wall/After the Fall: Post-Communist Cultures Through an East-West Gaze."
