WMU Home > About WMU > WMU News Get moving for a good causeDec. 8, 2006 KALAMAZOO--Western Michigan University invites faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends to take part in the American Heart Association's Heart Walk from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, at Crossroads Mall in Portage and Lakeview Square Mall in Battle Creek. On-site registration will begin at 7:45 a.m. Participants in this indoor, non-competitive walk are asked to collect monetary pledges leading up to the day of the event, to benefit the American Heart Association. Prizes are available to those who raise $100 or more, and vary according to the amount of money collected. WMU also is seeking volunteers to serve as Heart Walk team captains. If you are a WMU faculty or staff member, or are part of a student organization, and would like to be a team captain for your unit or group, please contact Shannon Landis at shannon.landis@wmich.edu or (269) 387-2361. As the signature fund-raising event for the American Heart Association, the Heart Walk is intended to raise money and support to combat heart disease, the country's leading cause of death. It promotes physical activity and heart-healthy living in a fun environment. This year, more than 1 million walkers will participate in 600 events across the country, raising money to save lives through research, programs and education.
