The new Presidential Search Web site, which can be found at www.wmich.edu/president/search/, includes the recently developed position description now being used in advertisements, a list of search committee members and a "Contact Us" form for submitting questions and comments to the search committee. The site also includes a link to BakerParker Associates Inc., a national search firm based in Atlanta and hired by WMU to help coordinate search activities. Other links on the site offer an archive of news releases detailing developments in the search to date, as well as profiles of the University and community that were developed for the search process. Led by WMU Trustee Ken Miller, the search for WMU's next president began in September with the appointment of a 14-member search advisory committee made up of faculty, staff and students from across the University. The full board approved the committee make-up and adopted a formal search process at its October public meeting. In November, a series of public forums were held to allow the campus and members of the local community an opportunity to provide input on the qualities the next president should have. The search committee developed the position description using insights gained from those meetings and from other meetings on the campus and in the community. The coming months, according to Miller, will be a quiet phase of the search as the search firm and committee look carefully at the credentials of candidates for the position. A handful of finalists should be identified, and they will be expected to make public presentations on campus in April. The goal of the search is to have a new president selected by summer 2007.
