Few campus services open during holiday recess

KALAMAZOO--Except for essential and emergency services, Western Michigan University will be closed beginning Saturday, Dec. 23, and will reopen Thursday, Jan. 4. With the end of fall semester Dec. 16, many campus services are already closed or have reduced hours through the start of spring semester Monday, Jan. 8.

The only public events on campus during the holiday recess are three Bronco basketball games in University Arena. The women's basketball team takes on Chicago State at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 22, and hosts Maryland-Eastern Shore in a 2 p.m. contest Saturday, Dec. 30. The Bronco men's team plays Culver Stockton at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2.

Residence halls open for spring semester at 9 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 7.

Spring semester classes begin at 8 a.m. Monday, Jan. 8.

Listed below are hours for selected University offices and services. Faculty, students and the public are encouraged to call ahead to make sure that a particular office on campus is open. For emergencies only, contact WMU Public Safety at (269) 387-5555.

Bernhard Center and Bronco Mall hours are available on the Bernhard Center Web site. All facilities and mall stores are on reduced hours through Monday, Jan. 8, and the entire building is closed Saturday, Dec. 23, and reopens Thursday, Jan. 4.

BCC lab (Bernhard Center computer lab) is closed through Jan. 3; is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 4-5; open noon to 5 p.m. Jan. 6; opens at noon Jan. 7 and resumes 24-hour operation.

UCC lab (University Computer Center lab) is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, Dec. 18-22; open noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 23; closed Dec. 24-25; open noon to 5 p.m. Dec. 26-30; closed Dec. 31 and Jan. 1; open noon to 5 p.m. Jan. 2-3; open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 4-5; open noon to 5 p.m. Jan. 6-7; and resumes normal hours, Monday, Jan. 8.

Sindecuse Health Center hours are available on the Sindecuse Web site. The center and its pharmacy are open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 18-22; open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, Friday, Dec. 29; and Wednesday Jan. 3; and closed Dec. 23-26, Dec. 28, and Dec. 30 through Jan. 2. Medical emergencies should be referred to local hospitals or other health care providers.

Student Recreation Center hours are available on the center's Web site. The center is open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, Dec. 18-21; 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 22; closed Dec. 23 through Jan. 3; open noon to 7 p.m. Thursday through Sunday, Jan. 4-7; and resumes normal hours, Monday, Jan. 8.

Waldo Library hours are available on the library's Web site. The library is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, Dec. 18-22; closed Dec. 23 through Jan. 3; open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Jan. 4-5; closed Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 6-7; and resumes normal hours, Monday, Jan. 8.
