Keep that New Year's resolution and support a good cause

Jan. 14, 2007

KALAMAZOO--Next month, the Western Michigan University community will get moving with more than 1 million other Americans taking part in some 600 American Heart Association Heart Walk events across the country.

Everyone is invited to join one of two groups in the Kalamazoo area from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, at Crossroads Mall in Portage or Lakeview Square Mall in Battle Creek. On-site registration for the indoor, non-competitive walks will begin at 7:45 a.m.

Leading up to the event, participants are asked to collect monetary pledges to benefit the American Heart Association. Various prizes are available to those who raise $100 or more.

The University needs volunteers to serve as Heart Walk team captains. WMU faculty, staff or students interested in organizing a group should contact Shannon Landis at shannon.landis@wmich.edu or (269) 387-2361.

As the signature fund-raising event for the American Heart Association, the Heart Walk is intended to raise money and support to combat the country's leading cause of death, heart disease, through research and education. It promotes fun physical activity and heart-healthy living.

For more information on the Heart Walk, visit the American Heart Association at www.americanheart.org.
