WMU Home > About WMU > WMU News Keep that New Year's resolution and support a good causeJan. 14, 2007 KALAMAZOO--Next month, the Western Michigan University community will get moving with more than 1 million other Americans taking part in some 600 American Heart Association Heart Walk events across the country. Everyone is invited to join one of two groups in the Kalamazoo area from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, at Crossroads Mall in Portage or Lakeview Square Mall in Battle Creek. On-site registration for the indoor, non-competitive walks will begin at 7:45 a.m. Leading up to the event, participants are asked to collect monetary pledges to benefit the American Heart Association. Various prizes are available to those who raise $100 or more. The University needs volunteers to serve as Heart Walk team captains. As the signature fund-raising event for the American Heart Association, the Heart Walk is intended to raise money and support to combat the country's leading cause of death, heart disease, through research and education.
