"Luau on Ice," is sponsored by the Western Michigan University International Programs Council, a student organization for international students, and is open to all WMU students, faculty, staff and their families. Participants receive free admission to the rink and $1 skate rental. According to Katie Smith, IPC president, this is the first year the "Ice Capades" event has had a theme. Plans include providing a disc jockey to play tropical and beach music and participants are encouraged to don Hawaiian garb for the festivities. "We find international students as well as a number of other WMU students have never ice skated before," says Smith. "This event is great for bringing those groups together to experience something new and fun and to learn from each other." Media contact: Marie Lee, (269) 387-8400, marie.lee@wmich.edu WMU News |
