Feb. 2, 2007

KALAMAZOO--Broadway's musical comedy, "Hairspray," winner of eight Tony Awards, will be in Kalamazoo for three shows at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, Feb. 13-15, in Western Michigan University's Miller Auditorium.

Set in Baltimore in the 1960s, "Hairspray" is the musical story about a big girl with big hair and an even bigger heart, who has only one passion--to dance. When 16-year-old Tracy Turnblad wins a spot on a local television dance program, she is transformed from outsider to teen celebrity overnight.

"Hairspray" premiered in June 2002 at Seattle's 5th Avenue Theatre. It opened on Broadway in August 2002, winning eight Tony Awards the next year, including Best Musical.

Tickets for "Hairspray" at Miller Auditorium are on sale now and range from $25 to $50. They are available by calling (269) 387-2300 or (800) 228-9858, online at www.millerauditorium.com, or by visiting the Miller Auditorium Ticket Office or the Epic Center Box Office in downtown Kalamazoo.
