Ski and tubing trip planned for Thursday afternoon

Feb. 18, 2007

KALAMAZOO--Western Michigan University is sponsoring a trip to Timber Ridge Ski Resort for an afternoon of skiing and tubing Thursday, Feb. 22, from 2 to 6 p.m.

Sponsored through WMU's Career English Language Center for International Students, the bus trip, departing from the Bernhard Center at 2 p.m., is open only to WMU students, with preference given to students enrolled through CELCIS. The bus is provided at no charge to participating students. Those attending are expected to pay for all other costs, which would include equipment rental and lift tickets, as well as any personal expenses for food and other items.

Dress appropriately

It could be very cold. The wind chill factor will be increased because skiers will be moving at speeds of as much as 15 miles-per-hour, for an intermediate-level skier.

Outerwear, including coat and pants, should be windproof and waterproof. Wear two to four layers of clothing. Wear two pairs of socks, with one ideally designed specifically for insulation. Wear one or two pairs of gloves. The outer pair should be windproof, waterproof and well insulated. Wear a scarf and a knit cap that fully covers your head and ears. Wear sunglasses or ski goggles to protect your eyes.

Registering

Register early. There is only one bus going and seating is limited.

Registration is $17 for tubing, $30 for skiing and $47 for both, which includes equipment rental and lift tickets. Interested students must pay the full amount by 3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21, in the CELCIS office in 0535 Ellsworth Hall.
