Update your computer for Daylight Saving Time

March 6, 2007

KALAMAZOO--The dates for the start and end for Daylight Saving Time change this year. Daylight Saving Time begins Sunday, March 11, and ends Sunday, Nov. 4.

Western Michigan University's information technology staff reminds computer users they may need to get a patch or an upgrade for their personal computers to have them automatically change to Daylight Saving Time and back to Standard Time on the correct dates. Some newer computers won't need an upgrade.

The time can be reset manually on personal computers, but that would involve resetting it four times each year. For example, you would need to reset your computer manually on March 11 this year and again April 1, when your computer automatically changes on the former date for the start of Daylight Saving Time. Twice again in the fall. Upgrades are free and if you choose that route, you fix it once, and you're done.
