WMU Home > About WMU > WMU News Students extend winning streak at sales competitionMarch 27, 2007 KALAMAZOO--For the fifth straight year, a team of students representing Western Michigan University has finished in the top five in a prestigious nationwide sales competition. The two-person team captured fourth place in the National Collegiate Sales Competition March 15-17 at Kennesaw State University. The competition is widely regarded as the nation's most prestigious university sales competition. Members of the WMU team are Molly Mutschler of Royal Oak, Mich., and Joe Kotz of Gilberts, Ill. Both Mutschler and Kotz are seniors in the sales and business marketing program in WMU's Haworth College of Business. The duo competed against approximately 88 students from 44 universities. Drs. Steve Newell, professor of marketing, and James Eckert, associate professor of marketing coached the team and accompanied them to the competition. "Western Michigan University's consistently high placing in the competition during the past five years indicates the exceptional quality of the sales and marketing program," Newell says. "Molly and Joe spent hundreds of hours preparing for the competition and represent the best of the Haworth College of Business and WMU."
