WMU Home > About WMU > WMU News Cannes winner "Volver" comes to Little TheatreMarch 29, 2007 KALAMAZOO--Kalamazoo Film Society presents "Volver," starring Penelope Cruz in her Oscar-nominated performance, Friday through Sunday, April 6-8, in the Little Theatre at Western Michigan University. Little Theatre show times for "Volver" are 7 and 9:30 p.m. Friday, 4:30, 7 and 9 p.m. Saturday; and 2:30 and 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $5 and $3 for students. The 2006 film is rated "R" for sexual content and language. It is presented in Spanish with English subtitles and has a run time of two hours. A tragicomic melodrama, "Volver" is the story of three generations of women in Madrid. It vividly describes the culture of death in the region of La Mancha, the richness and humanity of the rites that make it possible for the dead to never really die. Cruz received a 2007 Academy Award nomination for Best Actress for her performance. The ensemble female cast, including Cruz and co-stars Carmen Maura, Lola Duenas, Blanca Portillo, Yohana Cobo and Chus Lampreave collectively received the Best Actress award at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival. Volver was directed by Pedro Almodovar. The Little Theatre is located at the corner of Oakland Drive and Oliver Street on WMU's historic East Campus.
