WMU Home > About WMU > WMU News Movie fund-raiser supports Katrina victimsApril 16, 2007 KALAMAZOO--A canned food and clothing drive to support the continuing needs of victims of Hurricane Katrina will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 21, at Rave Motion Pictures Cityplace 14 in downtown Kalamazoo. The event is sponsored by Rave Motion Pictures and by the student Public Relations Organization at Western Michigan University and WKFR 103.3 FM. Theater customers who bring two or more nonperishable food items or one article of clothing will receive free popcorn or pop with the purchase of a movie ticket. Rave will also hold a drawing with a grand prize of unlimited free movies until January 2008 for the winner and a guest. Ten first-prize winners will receive four free movie passes, and one second-prize winner will receive a free dinner and movie coupon. Participants must arrive before 4:15 p.m. to be eligible. Winners will be announced on the air at 4:45 p.m. All canned goods and clothing collected will go to Emergency Communities, a United Way partner agency, to support their ongoing efforts to provide relief for victims of Hurricane Katrina. Emergency Communities has operated four relief sites and served some 300,000 meals to more than 25,000 residents of the hurricane ravaged region.
