Twenty-one students awarded accountancy scholarships

KALAMAZOO--Twenty-one Western Michigan University students recently were awarded scholarships by the Department of Accountancy.

The scholarships are for the 2007-08 academic year and recognize academic excellence and extracurricular participation in accountancy activities. They were presented April 9 during the department's annual spring banquet, which is part of the Haworth College of Business and the WMU chapter of the Beta Alpha Psi honorary accountancy fraternity.

Accountancy Scholarship Recipients

Benjamin Barrone of Grand Haven, Mich., was honored for high academic achievement with the Robert Wetnight Scholarship, sponsored by the Robert Wetnight Scholarship Fund. A senior majoring in accountancy, he is the son of Lori and David Barrone.

David Benesh of Ray, Mich., was honored for high academic achievement with the William Maze Scholarship, sponsored by William Maze. A junior majoring in accountancy, he is the son of Kathryn and Thomas Benesh.

Kayla Boocher of Cadillac, Mich., was honored for high academic achievement with the Deloitte Scholarship, sponsored by Deloitte and Touche. A sophomore majoring in accountancy, she is the daughter of Tom and Shelley Boocher.

Cheryl Chadderdon of Portage, Mich., was honored for high academic achievement with the David L. Rozelle Presidential Scholarship, sponsored by the WMU Office of the President. A senior majoring in accountancy, she graduated in April with high honors and is the daughter of James and Connie Chadderdon.

Adam K. Diekelman of Plover, Wis., was honored for high academic achievement with the Yeo and Yeo Scholarship, sponsored by Yeo and Yeo. A sophomore majoring in accountancy, he is the son of Ada Jane Diekelman.

Sara W. Fetke of St. Joseph, Mich., was honored for high academic achievement with the Jansen Valk Thompson Reahm Scholarship, sponsored by Jansen Valk Thompson Reahm, PC. A sophomore majoring in accountancy, she is the daughter of Pamela Fetke and the late Jack Fetke.

Steven R. Fitzsimmons of Joy, Ill., was honored for high academic achievement with the Seigfried Crandall Scholarship, sponsored by Seigfried Crandall, PC. A junior majoring in accountancy, he is the son of Karen and Phillip Foglesong.

Alicia Flint of Coldwater, Mich., was honored for high academic achievement with the Seber Tans Scholarship, sponsored by Seber Tans, PLC. A senior majoring in accountancy, she is the daughter of Jon and Danita Flint.

Casey Franssen of Mattawan, Mich., was honored for high academic achievement with the Plante & Moran Scholarship, sponsored by Plante & Moran, PLLC. A senior majoring in accountancy, he is the son of Michael and Connie Betz and Pat and Debbie Franssen.

Rebecca Highett of Bloomfield Hills, Mich., was honored for high academic achievement with the PricewaterhouseCoopers Scholarship, sponsored by PricewaterhouseCoopers. A senior majoring in accountancy, she is the daughter of Paul and Jayne Highett.

Katherine Kistler of Lawrence, Mich., was honored for high academic achievement with the Crowe Chizek Scholarship, sponsored by Crowe Chizek, LLC. A junior majoring in accountancy, she is the daughter of Geralyn and Frank Lima.

Florentina Marconi of Bucharest, Romania, was honored for high academic achievement with the Frederick Everett Scholarship, sponsored by the Frederick Everett Fund. A senior majoring in accountancy, she is the daughter of Emil and Rodica Nedelea.

Andrew Marshall of Rochester Hills, Mich., was honored for high academic achievement with the David and Sandy Rozelle Scholarship, sponsored by David and Sandy Rozelle. A freshman majoring in accountancy, he is the son of Colleen Marshall.

Matthew John Miller of Sturgis, Mich., was honored for high academic achievement with the Robert Neubig Scholarship, sponsored by the Neubig Scholarship Fund. A senior majoring in accountancy, he graduated in April with high honors and is the son of Julie Meek and Matt Miller Sr.

Quang Nguyen of Brownstown, Mich., was honored for high academic achievement with the Ernst & Young Scholarship sponsored by Ernst & Young, LLP. A junior majoring in accountancy, he is the son of Dan Nguyen and Nam Vu.

Robert Ozdych of Sterling Heights, Mich., was honored for high academic achievement with the Maner, Costersian and Ellis Scholarship, sponsored by Maner, Costersian and Ellis, PC. A junior majoring in accountancy, he is the son of Antionette and John Ozdych.

Quentin C. Sandberg of Novi, Mich., was honored for high academic achievement with the BDO Seidman Scholarship, sponsored by BDO Seidman. A junior majoring in accountancy, he is the son of Kaitlyn Sandberg.

Jeremy Sikkema of Kalamazoo was honored for high academic achievement with the Roger & Kim Pitzer Scholarship, sponsored by Roger & Kim Pitzer Fund. A senior majoring in accountancy, he is the son of Jerry and Jody Sikkema.

Trevor Smith of Kalamazoo was honored for high academic achievement with the Doeren Mayhew Scholarship, sponsored by Doeren Mayhew. A senior majoring in accountancy, he is the son of Randy and Sue Smith.

Heidi Uphues of Eau Claire, Mich., was honored for high academic achievement with the Ernst & Young Award, sponsored by Ernst & Young. Heidi is the graduating senior in accountancy with the highest grade point average. She graduated in April with highest honors and is the daughter of Delbert and Rebecca Patterson.

Armando West of Jackson, Mich., was honored for high academic achievement with the KPMG Scholarship, sponsored by KPMG. A junior majoring in accountancy, he is the son of Diana and Michael Maxwell.
