Faculty promotions for 2007-08 announced

KALAMAZOO--At its June 7 meeting, the Western Michigan University Board of Trustees approved a wide range of academic promotions, effective with the beginning of the 2007-08 academic year.

New professors and their disciplines include Dr. John Austin, psychology; Jane Baas, dance; Dr. James E. Carr; psychology; Dr. Ellen M. Cutrim, geography; Dr. Nora Faires, history; Dr. Tycho K. Fredericks, industrial and manufacturing engineering; Dr. Theresa J. Grant, mathematics; Dr. Keith M. Hearit, communication; Miranda H. Howard, University Libraries; Dr. John Lychner, music; Judy L. Moonert, music; Dr. Regena Fails Nelson, teaching, learning and educational studies; Dr. Craig A. Peterson, finance and commercial law; Vladmir Risukhin, aviation; Lori Sims, music; Dr. Jocelyn D. Hladky, paper engineering, chemical engineering and imaging; Eva Marie Jerome, nursing; David Orchanian, occupational therapy; Dr. Mariola Perez de la Cruz, Spanish; Sally A. Sutkowi, nursing; Adelia M. Van Meter, speech pathology and audiology; Sally J. Vliem, nursing; and John E. Weitzel, marketing.

New faculty specialists II are Glen P. Langworthy, aviation; Janice W. Maatman, public affairs and administration; David W. Montgomery, music; Troy Place, industrial and manufacturing engineering; Barbara L. Sagara, business information systems; and Carol A. Weideman, health, physical education and recreation.

In other board action, trustees approved three master faculty specialist promotions retroactive to the 2006-07 academic year: Elizabeth P. Amidon, English; Jerrie L. Fiala, industrial and manufacturing engineering; and Judith A. Rypma, English.

Trustees also promoted Dr. Monica L. Harris, special education and literacy studies, to assistant professor effective Aug. 13.
