Year's best foreign film comes to Little Theatre (July 26) "The Lives of Others," winner of 2007 Oscar for Best Foreign Film, comes to WMU Friday through Sunday, Aug. 3-5. Honor society names WMU chapter among top five (July 25) WMU chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta one of five honored as "most outstanding chapters in the nation." Faculty author and alumna illustrator give local talks (July 25) Children's author Dr. Janet Heller and local illustrator Amelia Hansen give presentations Aug. 2 at local bookseller. Annual Family Weekend rescheduled for October (July 25) Family Weekend set for Oct. 5-7, features night football contest and variety of activities for students and families. Book of one-act plays a first for New Issues (July 17) "The Art of the One-Act" by Arnold Johnston and Deborah Percy is first anthology, first drama publication from New Issues Press. Opera star Susan B. Anthony performs benefit show (July 12) International opera star headlines dinner-concert benefit for College of Fine Arts, July 28 at Cityscape Event Center. Suzanne (Sue) Husband (July 12) Longtime librarian and curator died July 11. New Wright-Pegg comedy comes to Little Theatre (July 12) Western Film Society presents "Hot Fuzz," from filmmakers of "Shaun of the Dead," July 20-22. Flags lowered Friday for Michigan man killed in Afghanistan (July 12) Army Pfc. Joseph A. Miracle of Ortonville, Mich., died July 5 while on active duty. Family Connection keeps families in the loop (July 11) During June, nearly 300 people joined free network for parents, guardians and family members of WMU students. Three works by Curtis-Smith presented Sunday (July 10) WMU students, faculty and guest artists perform works by WMU composer Sunday afternoon at Kalamazoo Nature Center. Seventeen students win $40,000 Medallion Scholarships (July 9) Seventeen freshmen with average ACT score of 29 and average GPA of 3.99 earn coveted WMU scholarships. Dunn begins his tenure (July 2) Eighth president of WMU spends his first official day in the office communicating with WMU community and area media. President Dunn issues message to WMU community (July 2) Dr. John M. Dunn's first act as president is to issue greetings and describe themes he will emphasize. Angles offers commentary on DVD of Japanese film (July 2) Dr. Jeffrey Angles provides voice-over commentary on Criterion Collection's release of classic Japanese film. Three students win major graduate scholarships (July 2) Three students awarded fellowships valued at more than $60,000 to pursue doctoral degrees at WMU. Alumni Association selects leadership for 2007-08 (July 2) Kirk Hoffman of Jackson, Mich., serving as president of Alumni Association, 11 others elected officers and directors. Visitors urged to avoid I-94 through Kalamazoo (July 1) Summer visitors urged to use detours to WMU campus, also expect delays on Stadium Drive and West Main Street. WMU offices closed Independence Day (July 1) Nearly all offices and services closed Wednesday, July 4, and open normal summer hours the remainder of the week. |
