Faculty trumpeter gives "Welcome Back" performance

KALAMAZOO--Western Michigan University faculty trumpeter Stephen Jones will kick off the School of Music's 2007-08 season with a special "welcome back to school" recital at 8:15 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, in the Dalton Center Recital Hall. Admission is open to the public free of charge.

Jones will perform solo, as well as with faculty pianist Silvia Roederer, colleague Scott Thornburg, and guest pianist and WMU alumna Helen Lukan. His repertoire for the evening will include Meg Bowles' "Night Sun Journey" for solo trumpet and synthesized tape; "Sonata for Trumpet" by David Gillingham, a Michigan composer in residence at Central Michigan University; Verne Reynolds' "Calls and Echoes" for two trumpets; and Vivaldi's "Concerto in B-Flat."

This will be Jones' debut performance of the program in its entirety.
