The event celebrates WMU's incoming LBGT and ally students by highlighting campus and community activities, resources and services that may be of interest to them. Activities open to the general public include a resource fair, which will showcase local agencies, businesses, offices and student organizations that advocate for the rights and inclusion of LBGT people. "The Rainbow Reception is a great opportunity for faculty, staff and students at WMU to meet and to raise their awareness of the diverse and inclusive community that our campus provides," says Sarah Stangl, coordinator of the University's LBGT Student Services. "We want all of campus, our allies included, to be able to come together and support the LBGT community." LBGT Student Services promotes an inclusive campus climate that affirms and supports the academic and personal development of students regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. It helps educate the campus community about gender identity and sexual orientation as well as collaborates with offices, student organizations and individuals at WMU and agencies and individuals in the local community to provide students with access to healthy resources, activities and support services.
