WMU Home > About WMU > WMU News University Symphonic Band opens concert seasonOct. 3, 2007 KALAMAZOO--The Western Michigan University Symphonic Band will open its 2007-08 season with a free, public concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, in Miller Auditorium. Dr. Robert Spradling, professor of music and director of bands at WMU, will lead the program, which includes a culturally rich collection of works by French revolutionary composer Francois Gossec; Australian-born pianist and composer Percy Grainger; and American composers Aaron Copland, Ron Nelson and David Gillingham. The band also will perform Joseph Turrin's "Fandango" with solo appearances by trumpeter Scott Thornburg and trombonist Dan Mattson, both faculty members in the WMU School of Music.
