Community invited to participate in Parade of Nations

Oct. 12, 2007

KALAMAZOO--The public is invited to help celebrate the "home" in Homecoming when Western Michigan University holds its annual Parade of Nations Saturday, Oct. 20.

The parade, which has become a WMU Homecoming tradition, is a colorful display of multicultural diversity on campus. It will feature many of the University's nearly 1,000 international students from 84 countries carrying flags of their home countries across the playing field just before the start of the Homecoming football game at 2 p.m.

All WMU students as well as the general public are welcome to support those international student ambassadors by attending a free get-acquainted tailgate party, then marching in the 15-minute Parade of Nations. The tailgate is slated for 10:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. and will include food and beverages.

The parade and tailgate are being sponsored by WMU's International Programs Council, Western Student Association and Diether H. Haenicke Institute for Global Education.

Those wishing to participant in either event should register with the International Services and Student Affairs office by calling (269) 387-5872 or visiting the office on the fourth floor of Ellsworth Hall, which is located on WMU's main campus.
