"The vibrant team of Renata Artman Knific and Lori Sims play these violin sonatas with rare fervor and drama," Bolcom says. "I first heard them in a shattering performance of the third sonata; they have evinced the same intensity in their readings of the other three, and I thank them profoundly for this recording." Knific has dedicated her career as a violinist to the performance of new music and collaboration with contemporary composers. In recent years, she's premiered dozens of pieces by leading composers. Sims is highly regarded for her "utterly convincing music interpretations," in the words of the Indianapolis News. She has distinguished herself as one of her generation's leading American pianists. Named 2007 Composer of the Year by Musical America and honored with multiple Grammy Awards, Bolcom is a composer of cabaret songs, concertos, sonatas, operas and symphonies.
