WMU job application system now completely onlineNov. 26, 2007 KALAMAZOO--Western Michigan University is now receiving, processing and tracking all internal and external employment applications totally online. WMU's Human Resources office began using the new online application system for filling staff positions in May and has been using it to fill faculty posts since Nov. 5. As part of this move to an Internet-based, paperless system for hiring-related operations, Human Resources this summer beefed up its online job posting services and eliminated its job-posting phone line. Handling postings and applications electronically reduces costs for WMU and increases the speed and efficiency with which managers can publicize vacancies and review the qualifications of those applying for these vacancies. It also allows prospective employees to learn about job openings, submit their application materials and track the status of their materials--any time, any day at their convenience. Internal as well as external job applicants who do not have access to the Internet may use a designated computer available in the Human Resources office, which is located in Room 1300 Seibert Administration Building and is open most days 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. To ensure a smooth transition to the completely electronic application system, a campus team spent more than a year developing and implementing the initiative. The six-member team was composed of representatives of Human Resources, the College of Education and the Office of Institutional Equity. Human Resources already has conducted training sessions on the online application system for staff members. Training for faculty members will be scheduled with departments on an as-needed basis.
