Gold Company performing at choral convention

Feb. 21, 2008

KALAMAZOO--Gold Company, Western Michigan University's award-winning vocal jazz ensemble, will give two featured concert performances today and tomorrow, Feb. 21-22, at the American Choral Directors Association Central Division Convention in Grand Rapids.

In addition, Dr. Stephen Zegree, the WMU Bobby McFerrin Professor of Jazz and Gold Company's director, will present a clinic.

"This is quite an honor, as we are the only vocal jazz ensemble invited to perform at the convention. And we are the only ensemble to give two performances," Zegree says.

Gold Company will be one of three groups performing Thursday at DeVos Place, hitting the stage last from 2:30 to 3 p.m. On Friday, Zegree will present the clinic, "Vocal Jazz Rehearsal Techniques: How Do They Differ from Traditional Concepts?" at 11 a.m. Gold Company will perform later that day from 9 to 10 p.m. in the Imperial Ballroom of the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel.
