Spring recess hours for campus services

KALAMAZOO--Many campus services at Western Michigan University are on reduced hours during spring semester recess, which effectively began today and continues through Sunday, March 9. There are no classes during the recess. WMU offices are open normal hours.

Classes resume beginning at 8 a.m. Monday, March 10. Daylight Saving Time begins Sunday, March 9. Remember to set clocks ahead one hour.

There are several public events on campus during spring recess, including Bronco men's and women's basketball games, Kalamazoo Film Society screenings of "Starting Out in the Evening," Miller Auditorium performances of "Mamma Mia!" and a concert by award-winning Chinese pianist Chu-Fang Huang. The Richmond Center for Visual Arts is featuring two major exhibits and will maintain regular hours throughout the recess.

Listed below are hours for selected University services. Faculty, students and the public are encouraged to call ahead to make sure that a particular service is open. For emergencies only, contact WMU Public Safety at (269) 387-5555.

Bernhard Center and Bronco Mall store hours are available on the Bernhard Center Web site. The entire building is closed Saturday and Sunday, March 1-2, and Saturday, March 8. Building hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, March 3-7.

Computer Help Desk is closed Saturday and Sunday, March 1-2 and 8-9, and open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, March 3-7.

Bernhard Center computer lab is closed March 1-8 and resumes 24-hour operation beginning at noon Sunday, March 9.

University Computing Center lab is open reduced hours noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, March 1-2 and 8-9, and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, March 3-7.

Sindecuse Health Center and its pharmacy are closed Saturday and Sunday, March 1-2 and 8-9, and open normal hours Monday through Friday, March 3-7.

Student Recreation Center hours are available on the center's Web home page. The center is closed to patrons, but open for a goal ball tournament, Saturday and Sunday, March 1-2, and closed Saturday and Sunday, March 8-9. Monday through Friday, March 3-7, the center is open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Unified Clinics will maintain normal hours throughout the recess.

Waldo Library is open reduced hours, noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, March 1-2, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, March 3-7, noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 8, and resumes normal hours at noon Sunday, March 9.

To reduce energy costs during the recess, heating and cooling systems in all classroom buildings controlled by the WMU Building Energy Management System will be in "holiday mode." Air handlers will not run unless a space is exempt from the program or the temperature in a particular space goes outside of the range of 60 to 85 degrees. Portions of a particular building that do not normally go into "night setback mode," will not go into "holiday mode."
