Top federal, state employers at Criminal Justice Fair

March 3, 2008

KALAMAZOO--Area students or residents wanting to work with agencies such as the FBI, U.S. Secret Service or Michigan Parole Board are invited to attend Western Michigan University's annual Criminal Justice Career Fair.

The free public event will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, in the South Ballroom of the Bernhard Center on WMU's main campus in Kalamazoo.

"More than 40 organizations will be participating in the fair, so this will be a great opportunity to get your resume out," says Joseph Orr, president of the campus Criminal Justice Student Association, which is hosting the event. "Those who attend can also explore different career fields, set up internships, and find out about opportunities for students to work part time while in school."

Several career fair participants are in the process of hiring a substantial number of employees. Among them are the Michigan departments of Corrections and State Police. In addition, representatives will be on hand from the Thomas M. Cooley School of Law as well as the law schools at Loyola, Michigan State and Notre Dame universities.

Other scheduled participants not already mentioned include:

Federal organizations--Army; Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms; Citizenship and Immigration Services; Customs and Border Protection; Drug Enforcement Administration; Marines; Marshals Service; Navy; Peace Corps; and Postal Service.

In-state organizations--Berrien County Child Services, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Gryphon Place, Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety, Kalamazoo Valley Police Academy, Starr Commonwealth, Target Asset Protection, Van Buren County Sheriff's Office, and WMU ROTC.

Out-of-state organizations--Elkhart (Ind.) County Sheriff's Department, Florida Department of Juvenile Justice (probation office), Mesa (Ariz.) Police Department, and Ohio Highway Patrol.
