Football schedule and homecoming date announced

March 14, 2008

KALAMAZOO--Western Michigan University and the Mid-American Conference announced the 2008 conference football schedule this week, confirming Saturday, Oct. 4, for WMU Homecoming and a contest at Waldo Stadium versus Ohio University.

It has been two decades since homecoming Saturday was earlier in the fall, Oct. 1, 1988, and only once since, 1996, was it the first weekend in October. More typically, Broncos celebrate homecoming the third weekend of the month.

WMU will play three of its five MAC West Division games in Waldo Stadium, versus Northern Illinois on CommUniverCity Night, Sept. 7; Eastern Michigan, Nov. 1; and Toledo, Nov. 15. All of the Broncos' home dates this season are Saturdays.

As previously announced, the non-conference schedule includes games at Nebraska and Idaho, a night game in Kalamazoo versus Tennessee Tech, and a contest versus Illinois at Ford Field in Detroit, which counts as a home game for WMU.

Game times for road contests and the game versus Illinois will be announced later.
