WSA officer elections, ballot referendum online

KALAMAZOO--Western Michigan University's student government, the Western Student Associtation, is conducting online election of officers through Friday, March 21.

WMU students can login to vote at wsa.wmich.edu/elections using their Bronco NetID and password. The ballot went online today and will be available around the clock until 4 p.m. Friday.

Ballot referendum

In addition to election of officers, students will be asked to vote on a ballot referendum pertaining to an increase in the Student Assessment Fee, which is levied each semester on every student enrolled in classes at the Kalamazoo campuses and allocated to student organizations for the purpose of funding campus events and activities. The referendum also includes a restructuring of the distribution of the fee. The exact wording of the referendum is available on the ballot.

Students may run as a write-in candidate for any position.

College of Arts and Sciences has six open senator positions. Declared candidates: Rebecca Mosley, Courtney Dunsmore, Heather Krestik, Virginia Pikaart and James Conner.

College of Aviation has one open senator position. Declared candidate: Jonathon Freye.

Haworth College of Business has five open senator positions. Declared candidate: Angela Ozar.

College of Education has five open senator positions. Declared candidate: Stacey Nordstrand.

College of Engineering and Applied Sciences has two open senator positions. Declared candidate: Rashad Thomas.

College of Fine Arts has one open senator position. Declared candidates: none.

College of Health and Human Services has two open senator positions. Declared candidate: Heena Patel.

Lee Honors College has one open senator position. Declared candidates: none.

Activities

Several activities are taking place to support increased voter turnout, including a rally at the Campus Flag Poles from noon to 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, featuring a performance by the brass section of the WMU Pep Band and carnival games with prizes. Six laptop computers will be set up for voting in the WSA tent at the rally.

Election results will be announced at the March 26 regular meeting of WSA.
