WMU Home > About WMU > WMU News Elaine A. AlbertMarch 20, 2008 Elaine A. Albert, Western Michigan University assistant professor emerita of English, died Dec. 17, 2007, in Kalamazoo. She was 98. Albert came to WMU in 1964 as a part-time instructor and was appointed assistant professor of English six months later. She taught courses in children's literature, writing and the English language. She did some of her teaching in Marshall and Muskegon, Mich., through what was then the Division of Continuing Education. Albert retired in 1979 after 24 years of service to the University. Albert was born in East Orange, N.J., Dec. 24, 1908. Prior to joining the WMU faculty, she taught in Muskegon (Mich.) public schools. She received an undergraduate degree from Western College for Women, which has since merged with Miami University, and a master's degree from Middlebury College.
