Personnel changes announced in career services

April 16, 2008

KALAMAZOO--A veteran employment specialist has been tapped to head a new business-oriented career center being developed at Western Michigan University.

Linda Ickes (pronounced IHC-uhs), associate director of Career and Student Employment Services at WMU, will direct the Career Center at the Haworth College of Business. The new center, scheduled to open later this month, will be part of the CSES network of resources available to WMU students, but will cater to those who are majoring in business.

Surangi Pradhan is replacing Ickes as employer relations manager for CSES while Heather Highhouse has joined the unit as a full-time career advisor.

Ickes came to CSES in 1998 from Bronson Methodist Hospital, where she had conducted organizational development and training, coordinated the career development and mobility program, and supervised operations in the educational conference center. Previously, she was the registrar/financial aid officer for the Bronson School of Nursing and a high school business teacher. A member of the University Assessment Steering Committee, Ickes regularly attends professional conferences and makes presentations on assessment in career development. She earned a bachelor's degree in business education and a master's degree in communication from WMU.

Pradhan had been serving as CSES' employer services coordinator. In her new role, she will continue her current duties as well as create and manage a campuswide corporate recruitment system. She earned a bachelor's degree in human resources and a Master of Business Administration degree from WMU.

Highhouse will provide career-advising and job-search services for the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences. She had been a contracted career counselor in the University's TRIO Student Success Program. She earned a bachelor's degree in accountancy from the University of South Florida and a master's degree in counseling psychology from WMU.
