Trustees to review FOIA guidelines Friday

June 11, 2008

KALAMAZOO--During a meeting set for Friday, June 13, Western Michigan University's Board of Trustees will consider lease arrangements with two external organizations as well as updates to the University's policy for handling Freedom of Information Act requests.

Meeting at 10:45 a.m. in Room 157 of the Bernhard Center, trustees will consider the lease of 10,000 square feet in Spindler Hall to the Ferris State University School of Pharmacy and the extension of a Bronco Mall lease for Subway Real Estate Corp.

Also on the agenda is a resolution to update WMU's 31-year-old Freedom of Information Act Resolution to reflect technological advances that impact the way public records can be created, kept, copied and delivered, as well as recent legal decisions that provide guidance for handling costs associated with providing requested public records.

The board also is expected to act on a formal recommendation by WMU President John M. Dunn to appoint Dr. Timothy J. Greene as provost and vice president for academic affairs, effective Aug. 1. Greene is dean of WMU's College of Engineering and Applied Sciences. His appointment was announced May 29, pending approval by trustees.

In addition, the board will consider gift, grant and personnel reports presented to them as well as a recommendation from the campus Graduate Studies Council to delete two concentrations in WMU's master's degree program in educational leadership.
