Trustees approve updating FOIA proceduresJune 27, 2008 KALAMAZOO--Western Michigan University trustees, acting at their June 13 meeting, approved a recommendation that would allow the WMU administration to update WMU's 31-year-old Freedom of Information Act Resolution to reflect technological advances that impact the way public records can be created, kept, copied and delivered. The move also authorizes the administration to act on recent legal decisions that provide guidance for handling costs associated with providing requested public records. The motion authorizes the WMU president of his designee to amend the WMU's FOIA resolution as necessary to conform to current law and technology. It also authorizes University officials to establish and publish fees for publicly requested materials and amend those fees as appropriate.
