Ten students earn major business scholarshipsJuly 18, 2008 KALAMAZOO-- Ten Western Michigan University students received
major scholarships this past spring semester in recognition of
their outstanding character and academic excellence. Cassandra Blodgett of Vicksburg, Mich., is a freshman in accountancy and received the $2,000 Thomas J. Sullivan Scholarship. Blodgett is the daughter of Donna A. and Dwight M. Blodgett of Vicksburg. The Sullivan Scholarship is a need-based award that is granted to a student who demonstrates academic excellence within the Haworth College of Business. This award is supported by an endowment in the name of Thomas J. Sullivan. Benjamin Brown of Marcellus, Mich., is a junior majoring in management and received the $600 Norman Clark Perkins Memorial Business Scholarship. Brown is the son of Judy A. and Gerald L. Brown of Marcellus. The Perkins Scholarship is a merit-based award that goes to a student who demonstrates, within the Haworth College of Business, significant academic excellence. The scholarship is funded by an endowment in memory of Norman Clark Perkins. TeKeilla L. Carr of Kalamazoo is a senior majoring in business management and received a $1,000 Robert A. Welborn Scholarship. Carr is the daughter of Cheryl M. and Terry L. Carr of Kalamazoo. The Welborn Scholarship is a need-based award that goes to a Haworth College of Business student in good academic standing. It is funded by an endowment in the name of the late state Sen. Robert Welborn. Benjamin T. McCann of Kalamazoo is a senior majoring in accountancy and received the $600 Haworth College of Business Achievement Award. He is the son of Betsy A. Depuydt of Baroda, Mich., and Paul H. McCann of Spring, Texas. The HCOB Award is a merit-based award that goes to a student who demonstrates, within the Haworth College of Business, significant academic talent as well as engagement in extracurricular activities. It is supported by donations from WMU staff, faculty and alumni. Kallista T. Minor of Ypsilanti, Mich., is a junior majoring in accountancy and received the $1,000 Dr. Bernadine P. Branchaw Scholarship. She is the daughter of Tina M. Robinson of Ypsilanti and Barry Minor of Texas. The Branshaw Scholarship is given to a junior who exemplifies outstanding academic excellence and leadership qualities. It is named in memory of Branchaw, who was a WMU professor of business information systems. David M. Perez of Troy, Mich., is a sophomore majoring in sales and business marketing and received a $1,500 Fifth-Third Bank Scholarship and the $2,500 Kalamazoo Gazette Scholarship. Perez is the son of Deanna M. and Manuel J. Perez of Troy. The Fifth-Third Scholarship is given to a Haworth College of Business student who not only shows outstanding academic excellence, but also has participated in community service. It is supported by Fifth-Third Bank. The Kalamazoo Gazette Scholarship is a need-based award that is granted to a student who demonstrates academic excellence within the Haworth College of Business. It is funded by the Kalamazoo Gazette. Tyler D. Tafelsky of Williamsburg, Mich., is a junior majoring in advertising and promotion and received a $1,000 Robert A. Welborn Scholarship. He is the son of Cynthia L. Crysler and David C. Tafelsky, both of Williamsburg. The Welborn Scholarship is a need-based award that goes to a Haworth College of Business student in good academic standing. It is funded by an endowment in the name of the late state Sen. Robert Welborn. Rolland C. Taft II of Battle Creek, Mich., is a sophomore majoring in computer information systems and received the $850 Alfred Pugno Business Scholarship. Taft is the son of Bette S. Taft of Battle Creek and Rolland C. Taft of Ceresco, Mich. The Pugno Scholarship is based on academic achievement within the Haworth College of Business and goes to a student whose grade point average is in the top five percent for the college. It is supported by an endowment given in memory of Pugno, a Fremont businessman and the first president of the WMU Alumni Association. Tamara D. Warren of Lansing, Mich., is a senior majoring in finance and received a $1,500 Fifth-Third Bank Scholarship. Warren is the daughter of Brenda A Wanen and Robert L. Warren, both of Lansing. The Fifth-Third Scholarship is given to a student within the Haworth College of Business who not only shows outstanding academic excellence, but also has participated in community service. The scholarship is supported by Fifth-Third Bank. Elizabeth H. Youngblood of Bloomingdale, Mich., is a sophomore majoring in personal financial planning , received the $600 GM/EEOC Scholarship. She is the daughter of Martha A. and Arthur R. Youngblood of Bloomingdale. This scholarship is based on academic achievement within the Haworth College of Business and goes to a student whose grade point average is in the top five percent for the college.
