Healthcare exec kicks off Distinguished Speaker SeriesSept. 4, 2008 KALAMAZOO--Jeanne Carlson, president and chief executive officer of Blue Care Network of Michigan and also a Western Michigan University trustee, will open the 2008-09 Haworth College of Business Distinguished Speaker Series on Thursday, Sept. 11. Carlson's presentation, titled "The Future of Healthcare," begins at 7:30 p.m. in Schneider Hall and is free and open to the public. A question-and-answer period and reception in Carlson's honor will follow the presentation. Prior to being appointed president and CEO of the health maintenance organization subsidiary of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, Carlson was vice president of the General Motors account and of several other key areas with "the Blues." A certified public accountant, she previously was a staff auditor with the accounting firm of Touche Ross & Co. as well as a private financial consultant. Carlson is serving an eight-year term on the WMU Board of Trustees that will end in 2014. She was a member of the WMU Alumni Association Board of Directors from 1995 to 2001, serving as its president in 2000-01. Carlson earned her bachelor's degree in business administration in accounting from WMU in 1968 and her master's in business administration from Wayne State University in 1989. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Healthcare Financial Management Association and the United Way Allocations and Admissions and Compliance Committee.
