BTR Park property goes to Innovation CenterSept. 29, 2008 KALAMAZOO--The possible expansion of the Southwest Michigan Innovation Center took a step forward with the approval by the Western Michigan University Board of Trustees to convey just more than one-half acre of land in the Business Technology and Research Park to the center. Acting at their Friday, Sept. 12, meeting, trustees donated the land, valued at $58,000 to the center, which is constructing a new office addition. As part of the planning process for the office addition, center directors determined a lab wing also could be added in the future, provided the center's growth and success continue. The additional land makes a new lab wing possible. The center has seen rapid growth and success during the past five years and has incubated 19 companies, with seven graduating into the community at large. A W.E. Upjohn Institute study completed in late 2006 shows those companies account for nearly 200 jobs and contribute more than $13 million to the local economy.
