WMU prepares to welcome students' familiesOct. 23, 2008 KALAMAZOO--Western Michigan University's expanded version of what many remember as "parents weekend" is more than just the traditional football game, and it's not just for parents--everyone is invited to WMU Family Weekend Friday through Sunday, Oct. 31-Nov. 2. Family Weekend Highlights Friday, Oct. 31--Pumpkin carving, a haunted house, the annual School of Music Halloween concert, "Tubaween," and the first of three weekend performances of University Theatre's "Our Lady of 121st Street" Saturday, Nov. 1--Classes without Quizzes, Info Expo for parents and family members, pre-game tailgate buffet in the Bernhard Center Ballroom, football versus Eastern Michigan and hockey versus Michigan State Sunday, Nov. 2--Grab the Reins brunch in the Valley II residence hall dining room, an open skate, an open swim, a University Symphony concert and "Nunsense," starring Sally Struthers, at Miller Auditorium More complete listings of campus activities and events in Kalamazoo are available on the Family Weekend Web pages. Students and their families must register by Wednesday, Oct. 29, to attend Saturday's pre-game tailgate buffet or Sunday's Grab the Reins brunch. Tickets for Saturday's tailgate are $12.75 for WMU students and adults, and $7.50 for children 12 and younger. Tickets for Sunday's brunch are $7.75 per person. Tickets may be picked up at the Family Weekend Welcome Desk in the Bernhard Center from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, and 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1. Also available in the registration and welcome area will be: nametags, information packets, pre-ordered football tickets and WMU Family Connection discount cards.
