Environmental solutions discussed MondayNov. 26, 2008 KALAMAZOO--Solutions to environmental problems that combine geology and civil engineering will be discussed Monday, Dec. 1, at two public seminars at Western Michigan University. Dr. Terry R. West, professor of engineering geology at Purdue University, will speak on "Solid Waste Disposal: Past, Present, and Future" at 2 p.m. in Room 1110 of Rood Hall, and "Rock Slide Stability: Description and Analysis" at 4 p.m. in Room 1118 of Rood Hall. The free lectures are sponsored by WMU's Department of Geosciences. West, a Purdue faculty member for the past 45 years, is a distinguished researcher with numerous publications related to geotechnical case studies. He is president of the Association of Environmental and Engineering Geologists, past chair of the Engineering Geology Division of the Geological Society of America and past chair of the Steering Committee of the Highway Geology Symposium. He is also a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the International Association for Engineering Geology.
