'Oliver' brings award-winning score to Miller

KALAMAZOO--Broadway's "Oliver" brings some of Charles Dickens' most unforgettable characters to Western Michigan University's Miller Auditorium Friday and Saturday, Jan. 23-24. The show begins at 8 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Saturday.

Based on Charles Dickens' literary classic, "Oliver Twist," this family musical follows one spirited orphan on his journey through the colorful underworld of 19th-century London in search of love and acceptance. The production debuted in London in 1960 and moved to Broadway in 1963. An instant hit, the show was nominated for 10 Tony Awards and won three, including Best Music and Lyrics. The 1968 film version received 11 Academy Award nominations and won five, including Best Score.

Tickets for "Oliver" at Miller Auditorium are on sale now and range from $25 to $50.
