John T. BurkeDec. 16, 2008 Dr. John T. Burke, professor emeritus and former chair of the Western Michigan University Department of Accountancy, died Dec. 14 in Fort Myers, Fla. He was 84. Burke was employed at WMU since 1962 and was head of the Department of Accountancy from 1976 until his retirement in 1990. Previously, he was a professor of accountancy at Syracuse University and also served in the U.S. Army during World War II. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 20, at Asbury United Methodist Church in Lansing, Mich. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Carroll University's College of Business in Waukesha, Wis.; WMU's Haworth School of Business Department of Accountancy; or Asbury United Methodist Church.
