Change of venue for WMU/MSU game

Jan. 16, 2009

KALAMAZOO--The Nov. 7 football game between the Western Michigan University Broncos and Michigan State University Spartans, originally slated for Ford Field in Detroit, will now take place at Spartan Stadium in East Lansing, Mich.

The date will remain the same for the game, which is a non-conference road contest for the Broncos.

"The economic landscape was vastly different at the time the original contract for this game was drafted and now, in light of the current climate, it is in the best financial interest of all parties involved to move the venue of this game," says WMU Athletic Director Kathy Beauregard. "We thank Michigan State and the staff of Ford Field for the relationships we have grown and strengthened while working toward this resolution."

A member of the Mid-American Conference, WMU has played at least one Big Ten team seven of the past 10 seasons. Two Big Ten teams have appeared on the Broncos' schedule in a single season three times during that span. This year, WMU will face three Big Ten opponents for the first time in history--MSU, Michigan and Indiana.

The Broncos' full schedule will be released later this spring. For more information, visit Bronco athletics online.
