Dance students perform in winter concert

KALAMAZOO--Western Michigan University dance students will present their Winter Gala Dance Concert Thursday through Saturday, Jan. 29-31, in Williams Theatre at the Gilmore Theatre Complex.

Performances begin at 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday. General admission tickets are $16; $12 for senior citizens, WMU faculty and staff, and Partners in Dance members; and $8 for students. Tickets are available at the door before each performance, or in advance by calling the Gilmore Theatre Ticket Office at (269) 387-6222.

The gala program features "Lily of the Nile," one of Loie Fuller's most popular dances; "Temporal Trance," by Frank Chaves, artistic director of River North Chicago Dance Company; and "Khamsin," which was created exclusively for WMU dance students by choreographer Ron De Jesus during his 2008 residency at the University. The repertoire also includes works created by WMU Department of Dance faculty members Carolyn Pavlik, David Curwen and Sharon Garber, as well as undergraduate dance student Rebecca Shulman.
